Is a Toxic Liver Making You Fat? Here’s How to Know for Sure

If you've been trying everything to lose weight – like eating less and exercising more – but still can't seem to lose any weight...

Your liver may be overloaded with toxins which are slowing down your metabolism.

This is really important, because these toxins upset the two major jobs of your liver:

  1. Detoxify and break down foods entering your body
  2. Produce biochemicals needed to break down fats for energy

But these days, our food supply is contaminated with heavy metals, chemicals, pesticides, hormones, additives, and antibiotics.

These impurities cause the liver to go into “toxic overload”, which makes your body unable to metabolize nutrients and fats properly.

When this happens, it’s much easier for your body to store excess fat. And as the years go by, the toxic overload - fat storage cycle continues.

The good news is, you can turn things around.

With proper nutritional habits you can get your liver to clean itself out, get rid of stored fat deposits, and speed up your fat burning metabolism.

Here are a few tips for less body fat, better digestion, clearer skin, and more energy:

Tip #1: Eat Whole, Unprocessed,
Anti-Inflammatory Foods

Take in nutrients that help your body detoxify. Juicing fruits and vegetables is great because your body’s detox system relies heavily on antioxidants found in vitamins and minerals.

The following are the best for helping the liver clear out excess toxins:

  • dark leafy greens
  • cruciferous vegetables
  • bitter/sour foods such as cultured vegetables and kombucha
  • green tea
  • apple cider vinegar
  • high antioxidant fruits such as berries

Tip #2: Avoid Sugar and Processed Foods

Sugary snacks and sweetened drinks force your liver to convert and store glucose rapidly. When blood sugar levels rise, insulin triggers your liver to store glycogen. These rapid changes in blood sugar levels over-work your liver.

Try and limit or avoid the following completely:

  • excess alcohol
  • refined vegetable oils
  • factory-farmed animal products
  • refined grains
  • sugary drinks and snacks

Tip #3: Reduce Stress

High levels of stress throw your hormones out of balance, and put pressure on your reproductive, digestive and immune systems. The best thing you can do is reduce mental stress. Find a supportive practice or ritual that helps you let go of negative emotions and things out of your control.

If not taken care of, these modern toxins can cause you to have weight problems but also put you at risk of having more serious health problems in the future. This makes it more important now than ever to take important steps to ensure your diet is toxin free.
